| Every new piece of equipment comes with a list of safety rules. Read, understand, and follow them, and enforce them among employees. Here are some additional rules: ● Never mow steep hills with a tractor. ● Always wear eye protection when mowing, trimming, and edging. ● Always clear bystanders from the area when mowing, trimming, and edging. ● Never leave any machine with the engine running. ● Never work on a machine or touch any (potentially) moving part without shutting off the engine and disconnecting the spark plug wire(s). ● Never use a machine for a purpose for which it was not designed. ● Never operate a machine without all safety guards in place. ● Never modify a machine in any way that increases revolutions per minute of impellers, blades, or other moving parts. ● Never design your own “blade boosters” or other moving parts, or install any parts except those supplied by a major manufacturer. ● If you work alone, take special care to avoid personal injury, as even a minor scrape can cause serious difficulty. Analyze your work routine, identify hazards, and find ways to avoid them. ● Never put a new machine in service without reading and thoroughly understanding its specific safety requirements. ● Note that you are responsible for enforcing safety rules among your crew members. |
